"Dawne" is Battling Lung Cancer And Her Brother-in-law Is Asking for Donations and Encouragement-Truth! But The Battle is Over!

bulletSummary of the eRumor:  An email from ERIC WAYNE KEY says that his 31 year old sister-in-law, Dawne, has lung cancer, and he asks that you go to her website to consider helping the family financially or at least leaving a message of encouragement.
bulletThe Truth:  The story and the appeal were true, but Dawne died on October 10, 2001.  There was a website with the details, but has apparently been taken down.
A real example of the eRumor as it has appeared on the Internet:

You have received this email because you are a friend or friend of a friend.

I have mailed out about a thousand emails asking for help. This is not normally the way I work, but this is an emergency.

My sister-in-law, Dawne, who you may or may not know, has lung cancer. She is 31 years old, has a loving husband, two young daughters, Emily and Jamie, and is fighting the battle of her life.

Straight to the point--I'm looking for donations to help cover medical costs.

They're humdingers.

I simply ask that you visit the website at: http://dawne.raindoggy.com.

If
you can't donate, all we ask is that you say a few words of encouragement on her message board and then send this link along to someone you know.

This isn't a chain letter or anything like that. Your hair won't grow back, your dog won't come back, but you'll feel better--I know.

Sincerely,

Eric Wayne Key
